10 places to take the kids in Bali

Bali is full of amazing things to see and do, and it’s easy focus on the temples, natural beauty and cultural aspects of what the island has to offer.

But there are also a ton of places to go and some great stuff to do with the kids as well.

For that reason, I wanted to share with you my top 10 places to take the kids in Bali.

Botanic gardens

A day spent at the botanic gardens is always a lovely day out, and a great way to escape the heat if you’re looking for somewhere a little cooler to go in the day.

Take a packed lunch, and after strolling around the gardens let the kids run around while you enjoy an hour or two relaxing on the manicured lawns and taking it easy.

Bali Safari

Located near Giyanyar Bali Safari is most definitely worth a whole day out.

Get there around 9.00 am and you are transported through the park one show at a time. Hear about the Sumatran tigers, learn about the animals of Bali, see a bird show. The pace is gentle and the shows exceptional fun and educational.

There’s plenty to see outside of the scheduled shows. A petting zoo, feed the crocodiles and the safari itself where you are driven around the park and get to see giraffe, lion, zebra and a host of other animals. (Don’t forget to go ahhhhhhh when the bus goes over the bridges, you’ll know what I’m talking about when you go….)

Food is varied and great value with a large food court catering to all different tastes.

one of may favourite things to do in Bali as it is so accessible (and such great value) A wonderful day out not just for the adults but the kids as well.

Go for the VIP ticket, it’s great value with seats right at the front of all the animal shows, along with a lunch buffet in the restaurant, a 30-minute elephant ride and a free photo with your favourite animals

Big Garden Corner

Located 5 minutes drive North of Sanur Big Garden Corner is a bit of a ‘hidden’ gem.

Stroll around the grounds and see the different sculptures and features on display.

The kids area is amazing, having both an outside water activities area and an inside playground.

The water area is a large, shallow (no deeper than a couple of feet) swimming pool area with fountains, water guns and a giant tipping bucket. Get soaked and have a great laugh…

The indoor play space has a climbing area and ball pit for the kids to race around and tire themselves out.

Water sports

If you love the water you’re going to love Bali. Access to the water is never more than an hour away, usually, only a matter of minutes depending on where you’re staying.

Bali is in the coral triangle, and it’s said that the biodiversity on the reefs surrounding the island is wider and more varied than the great barrier reef.

Get the kids out on a glass-bottom boat and have a go at some snorkelling to experience the stunning sights and colours of the reefs around the island.

For the slightly older kids there’s also kite surfing, surfing, paddle boarding, swimming, just playing about in the waves, the list goes on. If you can think of an activity then Bali has it.

Just ask around on the beach in any beach town and they will be able to help get you organised and get you going for the day.

Bali Equestrian Centre

How about taking the kids out for a pony ride, and spending some time learning about the animals?

The centre focuses on the welfare aspects of the animals in their charge and will pass the message over that the ponies are living creatures to be respected and cared for, not just to be ridden.

There is also an on-site café where you can grab a well-priced bite to eat and hang out.

Keramas Aero Park

Great value food, and a great venue. The park is on the main road that runs from the bustling south to many of the attractions further up the east coast and is perfectly positioned to stop off at the end of a day out and have your dinner.

Dinner in a converted airliner is guaranteed to excite the kids, or you can dine at tables outside and just stare at the thing, it’s cool…

There is also a play area where the kids can burn off energy and pretend to be aeroplanes as well, zoom zoom.

Bali Hai day cruise.

A spectacular day out travelling from Bali over to the adjacent island of Lembongan.

You are picked up from your accommodation and taken to Benoa harbour, where the boat will be waiting for your departure.

The cruise over is on their amazing Bali Hai boat, and takes around 35 to 45 minutes with on-board entertainment and stunning views of Bali and Lembongan from the ocean.

On arrival the boat docks with the Bali Hai pontoon where the entertainment really kicks in.

Take a ride on the submarine to have a look at the beautiful coral and sea life around the pontoon. The pontoon itself has a waterslide and runs lots of trips to the island for sightseeing and even more water activities.

Lunch is buffet and is served on the boat which transported you over.

There’s also an opportunity to try a trial scuba dive for the more adventurous.

The whole trip is excellent fun and excellent value, and the kids (and you) will be guaranteed to be happy and exhausted at the end of the day.

From thrill seekers testing their mettle on Asia’s steepest slide – The Climax, to families enjoying the expansive kids area or those wanting to relax and soak in the day away from the bustling world outside.

To this day, Waterbom still maintains more than 50% of the park as green space which makes the experience not just thrilling on the rides, but relaxing too when you fancy slowing down and taking a break.

There are a variety of high quality, and high value, options when it comes to the food available, all with excellent service.

Another fun packed day in the sunshine, and another guaranteed to bring big smiles and happy faces.

Cooking classes.

How about something practical, and delicious?

Learn all about Balinese food, preparation, cooking (and of course eating) on an afternoon cooking course.

Lots of places offer to teach you, one of the best being Bamboo Shoots in Sanur, which includes a trip to the local market to source ingredients, an amazing experience just in itself.
